Due Diligence Regulatory Audits (over 200) National Sites

Typical Inspection site

INNOVATIVE ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS, INC. is currently performing over 200 regulatory compliance audits for one of our clients. The audits are intended to ensure that the waste disposal/recycling firms that are used by our client are in full compliance with federal, state and local agency regulations, and that our clients' wastes are being properly handled. This annual auditing program has been streamlined by IESI to provide our client with significant cost savings in comparison to expenditures with previous consultants. Due to our low overhead structure, the audits are being performed by senior staff at lower costs than our competitors, who use fairly junior and inexperienced personnel.

The audit program consists of the following standardized auditing procedures for all audit team members:

  • Pre-audit information gathering from the facilities to be audited
  • Conduct an initial interview with the facility manager to get an overview of site operations.
  • Inspect the appropriate portions of the site, interviewing site personnel in each working area.
  • Review facility files to determine whether appropriate records are being maintained.

The personnel interviews focus on day-to-day environmental compliance systems and employee awareness of environmental requirements. The file reviews are not intended to be comprehensive, but include review of sufficient documents to assess presence or absence of required paperwork and the content of those documents. The site is also inspected for its overall condition and maintenance.

As the second part of the audit, the audit team obtains access to federal, state, and local agency files for the sites. These files are reviewed to identify any agency actions relating to the site or for any other information relevant to site environmental operations.

After the audit site inspection, the audit team begins post audit activities. These include:

  • Reviewing site information and collecting any information that was not available during the site inspection or the agency file review.
  • Post audit activities also include report preparation.
  • Review.
